first son gets a #1 added, second son gets a #2 added etc.
first daughter gets an "a" added, second daughter gets a "b" added etc.
this continues through multiple wives, example:

2nd wife
13 larry
1c amber
then:
13 larry m shelly
children:
131 jack son
13a ginger etc.

The letter From John N Kenyon, to Horace J Kenyon included this system regarding who at that time, Horace J Kenyon`s ancestors were.

in the letter it states:
"If your father (James Ferris Kenyon) was the third son of james and amy, his number will be 123633.  If he (James Ferris Kenyon) was the fourth son the number would be 123634." 

To Summarize: The #12363 is James Kenyon b 1816 m Amy Burdick
