He was listed as freeman in Westerly, 1727. On 2 Mar. 1723-4 he was voted by the town council of Westerly to be guardian to Robert and Thomas Rogers, sons to the late Captain James Rogers, upon their request.
He served as ensign in the 2nd Company of Westerly in the command of Captain William Clark, Jr., 1736 (C. M. L., p. 73). He participated in the settlement of the estate of his father-in- law, Captain James Rogers, in 1719, in Westerly. His wife, Sarah, was then living. She was living in 1748 when she signed a deed with her husband, Jonathan Kenyon(17). A number of accounts of this Jonathan, including that published by Beers in Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island, 1908, state that he married a Mary Gardner or Gardiner. Only two of his known children could have been born to this marriage. Moses was still a minor in 1774 and Elijah, of whom little is known, had a son born in 1793. From 1723 to 1765, there are twenty-four deeds of land from and to Jonathan Kenyon(17) in Westerly, Charlestown and Richmond. In the deed of 1765, his 2nd wife, Mary, signs. His will was proved in Charlestown, 7 Jan. 1767. He probably died in the latter part of 1766. His son, James, was appointed administrator. He mentions only Moses, Nathan and James and does not mention wife. He leaves to Moses, “the homestead I purchased of Tom Ninigret, now under mortgage to my son, Nathan.” (Town Meeting Recordst Charlestown). Land records disclose that Nathan and his des¬ cendants retained this well known piece of property.
